Speaker: Joan Fontcuberta
Joan Fontcuberta is a Catalan conceptual artist, photographer, curator, and essayist whose work examines the truthfulness of photography.
Abstract:
Photography was founded in the mystery of alchemy and has come to rest in a different magic, that of algorithms. At the beginning, photography was made with light and chemical reactions. Today it is made with computational processing of data. When the camera and the eye are replaced at the core of visual culture by neural webs and Artificial Intelligence, it is necessary to reconsider the role of images that hitherto mediated between the subject and the world and contributed to shaping human sensibility.
