Michel Wieviorka is professor (directeur d’études) of sociology at the Écoles des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris and Administrator of the Fondation de la Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH). Previously he served as Director of the Centre d'analyse et d'intervention sociologiques (CADIS) and President of the International Sociological Association (ISA). M. Wieviorka’s research has focused on social movements, democracy and multiculturalism, racism and anti-Semitism, terrorism, conflict, and violence. He is the author of over 30 books, many of which have been translated into English, including The Arena of Racism (1995), The Making of Terrorism (1993, reissued in 2005), and Violence: A New Approach (2009).
