"National Modernism" in Soviet Ukraine in the 1920s
The lecture presents the role of modernist literary theory in the process of Ukrainian nation-building within the broad framework of the Soviet modernization of the 1920s – beginning of the 1930s. The concept of "national modernism" (natsmodernizm) suggests an exploration of the complex interplay between the universalist paradigm of the Bolsheviks’ project and the development of a modern, national-oriented culture.
