The Gerda Henkel Foundation Renews Support for German Studies Visiting Professorship

The Gerda Henkel Foundation has generously agreed to extend its support to bring scholars from German universities to °®åú´«Ã½â€™s Department of German studies through the academic year 2018-19.

The Gerda Henkel Visiting Professors spend one quarter at °®åú´«Ã½ during which they offer a seminar in their area of expertise, present a public lecture and participate in °®åú´«Ã½â€™s intellectual community, as they continue their own research. Selected through a competitive open application process, the Visiting Professors are drawn from fields in the historical humanities in order to enrich the interdisciplinary scope of German Studies at °®åú´«Ã½.

The current year’s Gerda Henkel Visiting Professor is Wolfgang Seibel from the University of Konstanz where he is a professor of political science and administration. Professor Seibel has written on numerous topics in contemporary German history and will offer a course (in the spring quarter) on German foreign policy since the Cold War.

The 2014-15 Gerda Henkel Visiting Professor will be Nicole Schwindt, professor at the Institute for Early Music at the Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen. Her primary area of research is renaissance music, and she will offer a seminar (winter quarter 2015) on music at the court of Maximillian I in relation to the construction of German nationhood around 1500.

Details about the public lectures will be announced in advance. All are invited to attend.
