The DLCL is pleased to announce that Russell Berman, Walter A. Haas Professor in the Humanities, with appointments in German Studies and Comparative Literature, has been granted an award of $125,000 by The Teagle Foundation for the project, “Graduate Student and Faculty Collaborative Teaching in the Humanities.”

Building on the success of an earlier Teagle grant, this generous award will expand and sustain a program focused on deepening preparation of graduate students for teaching and enhancing the quality of undergraduate learning in classes taught by faculty and graduate student collaborators.  Over the course of 27 months, faculty-graduate student teams, drawn from the DLCL and outside departments, will meet regularly in seminars to engage with readings focused on higher education generally, liberal education and the humanities specifically, and the literature of assessment.  

The goal involves both providing graduate students an enhanced opportunity to prepare for a career as teachers in the humanities and offering undergraduates a more robust learning environment.  The project plans to document its work extensively, culminating in a major dissemination effort focused on developing new teaching paradigms.
